Making the Most out of Your Kitchen Counter Space

maximize your counter space and truly making the most out of your kitchen counter space.

Feel like you don’t have enough countertop space to cook and prepare food in your kitchen? No matter how big or small your kitchen may be, there are steps you can take to maximize your counter space and truly making the most out of your kitchen counter space. Here are some tips to help you get a bigger surface to work on.

Keep Decorations off the Counters

Decorations help give a kitchen personality, but that doesn’t mean they have to clutter your countertops. If you have an open space above your cabinets, use that to store your decora. You can also hang pictures on the walls or use decorative towels and rugs to liven the place up. If you don’t have much space to work with, the last thing you want to do is use up valuable square footage with knickknacks.

Hang Your Microwave

Hanging your microwave can easily free up a large portion of your countertop space. You can mount it underneath the cabinets or invest in a combination microwave/range above your stove. Not all microwaves were meant to be suspended like this, so you will need to make sure you have the right appliance for the job. If so, you can enjoy plenty of extra space to work on.

Store Appliances You Don’t Use Very Often

If you only use your blender once a month, there is no reason to have it out on your counters. Storing appliances that you do not use often will give you a lot of extra room in your kitchen, and it will help the room feel bigger as a whole. Of course, you wouldn’t want to do this with appliances that you use every day, like the coffee maker or toaster. It would be a hassle to pull those out every single morning just to make breakfast. Think about what will be most convenient for you and store your appliances accordingly.

Get a Kitchen Island

Kitchen islands are the perfect places to prepare and present food. If you have a large open space in your kitchen, you could use an island in the center to get tons of new counter space. You could install a set of cabinets with matching countertops to blend in with your existing kitchen, or you could get a rolling cart to use as a temporary island. That would give you the flexibility to store your island when you do not need it.
Note that if you cannot fit an island in your kitchen, you still may be able to reconfigure the cabinets to give you extra counter space. Give us a call at 877-717-8827 to speak with one of our kitchen remodeling experts.

Organize Your Cabinets and Drawers

Your cabinets and drawers play a large role in the overall efficiency of your kitchen. While this may not give you anymore counter space, it will ensure that you are able to prepare and cook food as quickly as possible. In general, pots and pans should be placed near the stove and oven. Dishes should be near the dishwasher. Spices, pasta noodles, and other ingredients should be in areas where you are most likely to do your food prep. Snacks can be stored in pantries or other areas that are not directly next to the cooking zones.

As long as you plan ahead when setting up your kitchen, you should be able to efficiently use the counter space available to you.
