Facts about Refinishing

Refinishing versus Replacing:

New bathtubs are inexpensive but when you add the cost of installation - the project skyrockets. While a brand new bathtub may only cost $300, often there are other costs to consider such as removal and disposal cost, plumbing alterations, and tile work. Refinishing can save you hundreds and often thousands compared to replacing bathroom fixtures and tile.

Refinishing versus Tub Liners:

Bathtub liners are glued over your existing fixtures - nothing is removed. They are made out of vinyl, acrylic or plastic the same as pre-fab units. They take about 2 weeks to order and can be installed in about a day. Refinishing is a better solution than getting a tub liner in most situations. A bath liner just covers up the problem and often costs more than refinishing. Liners are usually 50% to 70% more expensive than bathtub refinishing and often take much longer to complete because they have to be custom fit. Bathtub liners leave spaces between the liner and the original surface where moisture can condense. If cracks in the liner occur, the moisture becomes a huge problem.

Cleaning Grout Lines

Grout is a porous material and as such, it becomes unsightly no matter how much you clean. Grout absorbs dirt and debris from the minute it is new leaving the owner with unsanitary conditions and promoting the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew and algae. Refinishing your tile creates a coating that leaves you with a clean, sanitary barrier while improving the look of your tile.
